✨ MEMBERS SPOTLIGHT βœ¨

Some members don’t just join the IWA community - they show up for it.

Meet our two most active IWA members of 2025! Based on the number of event registrations throughout the year, these two were everywhere - from hosting and attending events to making connections and being part of the community. πŸ’™

Meet Surabhi,
IWA member since 2024

Question: What was your favorite event in IWA that you attended or hosted?

Surabhi: Charity Bazaar, IWApreneur and Choir - I love being part of all of them!

Why do you enjoy attending IWA events?

I enjoy exploring new things and places, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures and traditions. IWA gives me wonderful opportunities to grow, connect, and contribute to the community, especially through the Charity Committee and its events, supporting those who are in need.

Being part of IWA also makes me feel that I’m not alone in my expat journey. We support and learn from one another while creating friendships and having fun together.

What events do you look forward to in the coming weeks or months?

I would love to see more events such as cultural tours, learning workshops, activities where we can discover something new, and more family-friendly events where everyone can participate and connect.

Meet Alina,
IWA member since 2018

Question: What was your favorite event in IWA that you attended or hosted?

Alina: I started attending IWA Charity Committee meetings in 2025 and it became my absolutely favorite activity: being deeply involved in the core of IWA means so much to me; the visits of the NGOs that apply for grants, seeing in the detail the real issues affecting people's lives and granting even a small solution to their problems, makes a big difference. In theory everything sounds simple, but in real life, the struggle is authentic and the palpable results can be a game changer.

Another favorite activity (that I’m in charge with) is organizing Romanian lunches in fabulous old and elegant historical buildings.

Why do you enjoy attending IWA events?

Because of the amazing multi-national energy that gathers in one place and I feel we can do everything just by being united. It’s a special vibe when we get together, ladies from so many countries and cultures, exchanging ideas and thoughts, in the end, helping those in need. I also love finding so many interesting details about various cultures of my fellows.

What events do you look forward to in the coming weeks or months?

I just can’t wait to attend the Charity committee meeting, because during the summer, some colleagues and I visited an NGO that urgently needed help and I hope their problem was solved. I am looking forward for the September Morning Coffee, to see all the ladies after a beautiful summer and last but not least, the Romanian lunch on September 17th, that I will organize at Casa Alba historical fabulous restaurant, nested in BΔƒneasa forest.

A heartfelt thank you to our two featured members for sharing a little piece of their IWA journey with us! We’re so grateful to share this community with all of you - and we can’t wait for all that’s still to come.

Now, our dear Surabhi and Alina both mentioned how they enjoyed their time with the Charity Committee. Curious about their work?

Charity Committee Meeting

πŸ“† September 8, 2026 | πŸ•™ 10:00AM - 12:00PM

The Charity Committee meets monthly, from September to June, typically on the second Tuesday of the month, to review grant requests and evaluate ongoing programs. It’s a meaningful way to learn more about our impact, connect with like-minded members, and make a difference in our community.

This year, we have already funded 10 projects and counting, with a focus on education & inclusion, health & well-being, and the protection of women and children.

If you are interested to participate, please email iwa.charity@gmail.com.

Do you have a hobby, passion or a special activity in mind that you'd love to share with fellow IWA members? Email us at iwabucharest@gmail.com

Dear IWA members, we'd love for you to enjoy the activities prepared by our volunteers!

As you register for events, kindly make every effort to attend! We need your support because members often cancel last minute, or just don't turn up or turn up without registering. It's not fair to our volunteers, who work really hard planning events, to suddenly have to pay for you, or to deal with the repercussions because our group is smaller or bigger than we committed to.

Please note IWA's standard policy: you will be charged if you cancel less than 3 days before (or as stated in event description). We will collect the registration fee (or 100 lei for Coffee Mornings and certain free tours). Sometimes we have a waiting list but usually cannot fill spots the day before. We appreciate your support in this, because it's no fun for any of us.

Thank you so much!

πŸ’œ A COMMUNITY BUILT BY ITS MEMBERS πŸ’œ

Thank you for being part of our IWA community. We hope to see you this September, share a few laughs, make new connections and create some wonderful memories together.

See you soon! 🌸
